Dates: June 29, 2014 - July 3, 2014

Location: Ascona (Switzerland)

A discussion of problems, solutions and implementation techniques
in the world of data infrastructures for environmental research.

Infrastructures – a rapidly emerging subject to enable increased national and
international collaboration and to facilitate the save storage of valuable data for future
reuse. Environmental sciences have a particular requirement for interoperable
eInfrastructures, with data originating from very heterogeneous sources, covering an
extremely wide reaching domain. This brings with it challenges in terms of naming
schemes and commonly used data formats.
The challenge of data infrastructures no longer however stops at the storage and discovery
of data. Users now expect data infrastructures to provide added value services, such as
data analysis or pre-processing, alert services or complex visualisation systems. As these
services can easily become very demanding on the computing infrastructure the flexible
and transparent use of high power computing is crucial.
EeI2014 will bring together leading IT scientists - users, managers and developers alike -
who will be able to share their knowledge, and to develop the roadmap towards the
environmental data and knowledge platform of the future. Participation in the workshop will
be limited to 90 participants to encourage networking of participants and enhance
collaboration within the community.
EeI2014 will take place in the beautiful setting of the Centro Stefano Franscini, a renowned
conference centre near Ascona. The workshop is being organized by the community
behind the Swiss Experiment Platform; a data and knowledge platform for environmental
research, developed by Swiss research institutes.
This is a pre-call. Please visit our website at eei2014.org and make sure to submit
your abstract in due time and sign up to the mailing list for the latest developments.
